Lois Brink, MLA receives University of Colorado Denver Graduate School Dean’s Masters Mentoring Award

Denver, Colorado – Lois Brink, MLA, Professor in the Landscape Architecture Department for the College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) at the University of Colorado Denver, recently received the prestigious Dean's Masters Mentoring Award. 
This award goes to faculty who demonstrate a commitment to providing students with a one-on-one, high-quality training experience; maintain high standards of scholarship; and possess personal attributes that make the faculty member an effective role model for other mentors. Faculty are nominated by the master's students whom they mentored for at least one semester and with a significant amount of one-on-one interaction.
Lois Brink has dedicated 30 years as a landscape architect. She spent time as a steward with Learning Landscapes where she had a role in completing 96 redeveloped elementary schoolyards and helped the organization make “substantial progress” in multiple school districts in Colorado. Her university research is focused on community-engaged principles and she has many research partnerships with organizations such as Denver Public Schools and the Philadelphia Zoo.
Brink was nominated by seven students in the Master of Landscape Architecture program.
Her nominators shared, "Professor Brink has helped guide and develop our professional careers in a way that has shown exceptional passion and unprecedented commitment to high-quality education. By constantly encouraging us to self-assess our values and our methodology, Lois has shifted the conversation from that of an authority-to-student monologue to a forum of free-thinking.”
Brink is the recipient of the 2020 Dean’s Masters Mentoring award, along with Michael Hinke, MURP from the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Previous award recipients are listed below.
